Beetroot Juice Recipe Overview

For optimal health benefits, beetroots should ideally be consumed in their raw state. This can be achieved either by making a vibrant beet juice or a rich beetroot smoothie (with its fiber content it can aid in colon cleanse and liver detox).

For nutrient variation, I’m alternating my beet juice with cabbage juice, celery juice, or a green anti-inflammatory juice. Or a combination of those, depending on what I have in the fridge at the time.

In this specific beet juice recipe, we’ll combine beetroot juice, carrot juice, apple, ginger, and lemon. This combination works in synergy and helps increase the bioavailability of multiple vitamins and nutrients that otherwise would be harder to assimilate.

The preparation methods, either using a blender or a juicer, are detailed below.

Beet Juice Ingredients And Their Benefits

  • Beets – provide some impressive health benefits, they are good sources of folate, potassium, vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants, as well as nitrates. (You can also add the green tops if you like, for extra nutrients). Additionally for keeping the fiber, incorporate more beets into your healthy diet through beetroot salads or soup and some fermented beetroot for your gut flora diversity.
  • Carrots – the simultaneous use of iron (present in beets) and vitamin A (present in carrots) seems to be more effective to prevent iron deficiency (anemia) than the use of these micronutrients alone. (Don’t use baby carrots, they are actually regular cut carrots, washed in a chlorine solution ment for longer storage).
  • Apple – is a good source of several antioxidants, including quercetin, catechin, and chlorogenic plus they are packed with Vitamin C, K, and potassium. Some of the antioxidants in apples may also slow down absorption of sugars present in the juice, which prevents any sugar spike.

  • Lemon (the juice only) – the Vitamin C form lemon juice will increase the bioavailability of iron present in beets.
  • Ginger – has powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-diabetic properties as it able to lower blood sugar levels. Moreover ginger is a powerful anti-bacterial and antiviral agent which further improves the juice potency. Ginger will also help with nausea if you have a difficult time drinking vegetable juices. (Use peeled or unpeeled ginger, it’s up to you).

How To Make Beetroot Juice With A Blender

If you don’t want to invest in a good juicer, you can make the beetroot juice with a blender (I use my Ninja blender, because I prefer a glass pitcher not plastic), a nut milk bag and a tall container.

Steps For Making Beet Juice Without a Juicer:

Step 1: Prepare The Ingredients:

  • Wash, peel and cut the vegetables into smaller chunks for an easier blending.

Step 2. Blend:

  • To make the juice with beetroot you just need to blend all ingredients in the blender with some water (enough to help things moving). Check the recipe card below for measurements.

How To Make Beet Juice With A Juicer

  • Start by washing and peeling your beets and other ingredients, if necessary.
  • Next, cut them into chunks that will fit comfortably inside your juicer.
  • Once your ingredients are ready, feed them through the juicer one at a time, starting with the thicker pieces first to help push out the juice. You can discard the pulp or save it to add to other recipes, such as beet crackers.
  • Finally, pour your fresh beet juice blend into a clean glass or bottle and enjoy!

Best Juicer For Beets

The best juicer for beets is the one which has the ability to extract the highest amounts of nutrients, preserve enzymes and with less oxidation in the juicing process. And for this, masticating juicers are often considered the best, as they yield a dryer pulp and more juice (they are also referred as cold press juicers or slow juicers). The vertical masticating juicers are probably the most convenient as they have a compact design and will occupy less space in your kitchen and the one I’m using is metal free.

Tips To Juice Beets

  1. Choose Your Beets Wisely: Smaller beets tend to be sweeter and juicier. Juice your beets soon after purchase. Fresh beets yield more juice and have a better flavor. Buy organic (less pesticides).
  2. Prep In Advance: for a smoother juicing process, consider pre-cutting and peeling your beets, carrots, and apples beforehand, keeping them in a sealed container for convenience. Proper storing will ensure they stay fresh longer.
  3. Juice mixes: The addition of apple and lemon cuts the edge of bitter veggies and makes the juice taste better but try not to add other fruits. Mixing fruits and veggies can cause gas, because fruit digests faster and uses different digestive enzymes.
  4. Boost the nutritional profile: To enhance the nutritional value of your beet juice, consider adding leafy greens. The calcium in greens will get easily absorbed when combined with Iron (from beets) and Vitamin C present in the juice.

Best Beetroot Juice Combinations

  1. Beetroot, Carrot, and Cucumber Juice: The neutral taste of cucumber and the sweet taste of carrot help mellow out the strong earthy taste of beetroot, creating a balanced flavor profile.
  2. Beetroot, Green Apple, and Kale Juice: The tartness of green apple and the slightly bitter taste of kale work well with the earthy flavor of beetroot.
  3. Beetroot, Swiss Chard, Broccoli Stem, and Apple Juice: This nutrient-packed blend brings together the rich, earthy flavors of beetroot and the subtle bitterness of Swiss chard with the robust, green taste of broccoli stems. This combination is not only well balanced but also provides a range of health benefits, including enhanced digestion and boosted immunity.
  4. Beetroot, Pomegranate, and Lime Juice: Pomegranate’s natural sweetness and the tanginess of lime make this beetroot juice combo a tasty iron-rich juice.
  5. Beetroot, Apple, Celery, and Ginger Juice: beetroot’s earthy notes, apple’s sweet crispness, celery’s refreshing taste, and ginger’s invigorating spice, results in a balanced, nutrition-dense juice that wakes up the taste buds while promoting health.
  6. Beetroot, Parsley, Dandelions, and Apple Juice: This revitalizing juice is a fusion of earthy beetroot, zesty parsley, subtly bitter dandelions, and sweet apple. It’s a well-rounded, nutrient-dense concoction, offering improved heart health, enhanced immune function, and better digestion.
  7. Beetroot, Bell Pepper, and Cilantro Juice: This unique blend offers the cardiovascular benefits of beetroot, the immune-boosting properties of bell pepper, and the digestive health support from cilantro.
  8. Beetroot, Apple, Mint, and Turmeric Juice: a healthful blend that offers a range of benefits, from anti-inflammatory properties to digestive support. The apple adds a hint of sweetness, while the mint provides a cooling note to contrast with the warmth of turmeric, all making for a well-rounded and delicious juice.

Can this be made and frozen to keep longer

If I use a ninja style blender can I keep the pulp in the drink too

HealthyTasteOfLife

Freezeing will result in nutrients loss. You can keep the pulp -sure- and drink it as a smoothie.
