This homemade tallow face cream with rosehip oil has a soft, buttery texture and is made with simple, nourishing ingredients. Tallow, rosehip oil, beeswax, and soothing botanical oils help moisturize dry or sensitive skin, support the skin barrier, and improve softness and elasticity. This whipped tallow face cream is especially useful for skin prone to redness, eczema-like dryness, irritation, or breakouts, and can also provide rich moisture for mature skin. Use less beeswax for a softer whipped cream or more for a firmer tallow balm. Despite its richness, only a small amount is needed, making it suitable for both dry and oily skin.

Cook Time 5 minutesminutes
Melting + Cooling + Whipping Time 20 minutesminutes
Using a double boiler, gently melt the tallow and beeswax together over low heat.
Combine and cool
Once fully melted and liquid, remove from heat.
Allow the mixture to cool until it starts to look a bit cloudy at the edges. Probably 5-10 minutes, depending on your room temperature. Stir every couple of minutes to encourage even cooling.
Cool until warm, not too long so it doesnt solidify again, and not too hot so you could add the rest of the oils without changing their properties.
Add the oils
Stir in the rose hip oil and the essential oils.
Whip
Whip with a hand mixer until light and fluffy and evenly incorporated.
Store
Transfer to a clean, dry jar and seal tightly.
Jar tip: Store the tallow cream in a clean, dry container with a tight-fitting lid. 4 oz glass jars are my preference for longer-term storage, especially when essential oils are used, while cosmetic-grade plastic jars are lightweight and convenient for travel.
Notes
Texture: Reduce the beeswax for a softer cream or increase it for a firmer balm. It can also be omitted for an extra-soft whipped tallow.Storage: Store tightly covered in a cool, dark place. Keep water out of the jar and refrigerate if your home is particularly warm.To prevent a grainy texture: when you combine the oils and let them cool, try to stir every 2 minutes, rather than letting it cool by itself at room temperature (the edges tend to solidify faster than the middle, and mixing will keep the mixture uniform in consistency), until ready to whip.Whipping when still liquid is still fine, it will actually help the mixture cool uniformly (but be prepared to whip for a while).Test: patch test on a small area of skin first to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction to any of ingredients.
