Tips For Making Anti-inflammatory Green Smoothies:
For an extra power to fight an infection or enhance cellular function, consider adding more green superfoods like spirulina. It is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet due to high concentrations of proteins, vitamins and nutrients (studied extensively by NASA as a food source for long-term space missions). It’s important to choose a product that is non-irradiated (irradiated are nutritionally inferior) tested to be free of contaminates such as heavy metals, algae toxins & microbiological contaminates, pesticides and other chemicals. My favorite is this one.
Use turmeric or ginger both fabulous anti-inflammatory agents. Note: you need to take quite a lot of turmeric powder in order to see anti-inflammatory effects (about 500 to 1,000 mg of curcuminoids per day. In one teaspoon of fresh or ground turmeric are only 200 mg of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric). In this case it might be more convenient to take turmeric capsules.
Make anti-inflammatory green smoothies with low glycemic index fruits – less sucrose). You can choose from fruits like berries, papaya, cherries, grapefruit, pears, apples, plums, peaches, nectarines, avocado, they all pair well with greens.
Including a source of healthy fat, such as nuts, nut butters, avocados, chia seeds, flax seeds or flax oil, hemp seeds, hemp oil, coconut oil, will help your body absorb the fat-soluble vitamins.
Choose greens that are highly anti-inflammatory and cleansing like: dandelions, parsley, kale, collard greens, spinach (if you are not oxalate sensitive), broccoli, carrot green tops, beet root tops, cilantro. If you have high levels of heavy metals be careful with cilantro as it releases heavy metals in the bloodstream. And if there is no binder (like chlorella) to be excreted with, it can be reabsorbed and cause serious side effects.
